1. Speech Therapy: Learn Practices That Assists People With Speech And Language Disorders
The Speech Therapy Course Online will help you assist people with speech and language disorders or who have trouble swallowing. This course takes you through the role of a speech therapist, the anatomical structures and physiological functions of speech and hearing, phonetics, language development and speech disorders, the structure of language, and career paths in this field.

You’ll learn about the role of a speech therapist and the conditions and areas of communication that they focus on. You will be provided with in-depth listing of pathological terms that are used amongst speech and language professionals.
Equally as interesting is Phonetics (the study of human speech sounds). The Speech Therapy Course breaks the topic down into its three branches and explains each fully:
- Articulatory Phonetics: The study of the way in which speech sounds are produced
- Acoustic Phonetics: Analyses the physical properties of speech
- Auditory Phonetics: Illustrates the ways in which sound is perceived
The Speech Therapy Course provides a deep exploration into various conditions that can affect the development of speech and language and how this manifests itself in each case. The conditions covered include neurological disorders, brain injury, drug abuse, intellectual disabilities, vocal abuse, autism and apraxia, plus physical impairments. The course also explains how the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) uses pictorials as a form of treatment of autistic children experiencing speech impairment issues.

2. Animal Assisted Therapy: Discover That Animals Make Great Therapists
The Animal Assisted Therapy course discusses this further: giving information on the effectiveness of animals on human mental, physical and psychological health through Animal Assisted Activities (AAA) and Animal Assisted Therapies (AAT).
While the roles often merge ‘Animal Assistants’ and ‘Therapy Animals’ offer different functions to humans. The Animal Assisted Therapy Course discusses these differences and also how they crossover, whilst explaining what specific animals can offer in terms of assistance.
Students will discover that animals make great therapists for a number of conditions and for a number of reasons. You will learn how they can aid mental health issues, and how these mental health conditions arise in the first instance.
As humans we have certain needs that must be met for us to be healthy, the absence of which can lead us away from happiness and health, and into mental ill health, which often leads to physical sickness. We discuss the scientific findings that link mental well-being to the presence of animals, detailing exactly animals can do for our health, both physical and mental.

Art Therapy is the use of artistic methods for the treatment of mental disorders, as well as mental enhancement and overall well-being. Art therapy was first used in 1924, and formal Art Therapy Associations were formed in the 1960's in Europe and America. Numerous conditions can be treated by art therapy, which might include age related conditions like dementia or trauma and PTSD, as well as for children who suffers from numerous conditions.
Art Therapy can include visual art or expressive art forms.
The different Art Therapy techniques are implemented to assess and evaluate the client, via functional assessment and psychosocial assessment.
Visual art techniques include painting, drawing, sculpting, collage, writing photography, textiles and digital art.
Expressive Art therapy include writing, drama, dance and movement. Art therapy should also be applied in a mindful (MBAT) sphere to enhance the clients mindfulness and focus.
Chromotherapy are used for curing babies with neonatal jaundice, seasonal affective disorder and can improve alertness, attention, reaction times, general mood.
Art Therapy in children can be a challenge because they have different communication needs than adults. Art Therapy for children provide them with a non-judgmental environment to express their feelings and emotions.
Art Therapy for the aged can be a challenge because of the physical challenges they might have. Art Therapy can enhance their quality of life.
Art Therapy has applications in different specialty areas like mental health services, schools, prisons, addiction and rehabilitation centers, hospitals, hospices, treatment for chronic illness.
Because Art Therapy is a fun activity, there is less resistance from the patient as towards formal therapy techniques.

AAA stands for Animal-Assisted-Activity that the professional therapist can use in an informal and less structured spontaneous way to help clients to overcome stress, anxiety, loneliness, and to help them recuperate from illness and for general relaxation. Usually it is not strictly goal orientated. The time frame is also not fixed. AAA can be done in groups or one on one.
AAT is Animal-Assisted-Therapy which is more structured and planned, formal goal orientated, measured and sessions are logged. The purpose of AAT is emotional, physical and cognitively orientated, and therapists can provide ancillary services to other professionals like Special Education Teachers, Physical Therapists,Social Workers,Addiction Counselors,Recreational Therapists,Nursing Home staff and Counselors.
AAT can be applied to clients which have acute or chronic anxiety, Depression, Autism
people which are distracted easily learn to concentrate, people who are going through medical issues like cancer, enhancing the healing process.(AAA can also be used here). AAT enhances memory retention in patients with Alzheimer disease, People with physical disabilities gain confidence with service dogs, hearing and visual dogs. People with balance problems benefit for instance from horse riding. All and all AAA and AAT has a calming effect on the patient.
Most people using AAA and AAT are children, although any age group can benefit from it. With children great care and precautions must be taken to choose the appropriate animal, safety of the client and the safety of the animal and signs of distress must be picked up quickly and acted upon immediately. First aid kits must be available and knowledge of allergies is essential. In order to reduce distress for both the client and therapy animal, the therapy room must be is calming colors and non distracting decor. Any toys containing toxins cannot be used during a session. For children AAT reduces anxiety, help them cope while grieving, combats low self esteem and loneliness,it eases them into more formal types of therapy,it helps them with social skills and to converse better, it helps them to recover from injury,
it distracts them from experienced trauma or illness,it promotes a feeling of "belonging".
There are negatives involving children with AAT also. For instance they may have allergies, cause potential distress for the animal, removal of the animal might be difficult, it may provide an escapism outlet at inappropriate times and lastly it can cause a child to become overly reliant on the animal.
Animal assisted therapy can be used by itself or with interaction from the therapist.
A good way to measure a clients experience of a session is to ask the question of how anxious or depressed etc. he or she feels before the session and then ask the same question afterwards. This would give a rough indicator of how successful the session was.
My opinion is that AAA and AAT is a format of therapy which can compliment other forms of therapy to the benefit of the client.
